Cayla Lopez
Cayla is graduating with degrees in Political Science and International Studies. Cayla has been highly active on campus, in the community, and internationally. During the 2009-2010 academic year, she held two jobs on campus, as Programming Coordinator for the Women’s Center and International Ambassador in the office of the International Degree and Education Abroad, while pursuing her degrees and writing a thesis. Attending college opened doors to a wide array of course subjects for Cayla, including women, gender and feminist studies, as well as international affairs, shaping her personal interests, career goals, and involvement with other campus organizations, such as Pi Sigma Alpha, the Political Science Honor Society, and the Campus Alliance for International Resources. CAIR functions as a support system for welcoming all internationally-minded or culturally-curious individuals, providing a secure home-away-from-home for these students to connect with one another, as well as with the rest of the campus community.
Cayla met requirements for her degrees by conducting an internship in the International Relations office for the city of Rosario in Argentina. This internship gave her the opportunity to meet and assist international representatives from every Latin American country for the 14th Annual Summit of MERCOSUR: southern common market for free trade in services and goods. The capstone of Cayla’s undergraduate experience is a thesis combining her experiences and interests in international relations, entitled “Argentina’s Transition from Classic Neo-Liberal Policies to a Horizontal Autonomy, From Riches to Rags: The Movement of Unemployed Workers”.
