Garrett Jones
Garrett has graduated with Honors degrees in Biology and International Studies. During his Junior year, he participated in an internship with Child Family Health International in Quito and Chune, Ecuador. His internship focused on the medical and health needs of urban and rural Ecuadorians, where he did surgical rotations, leading to his desire to pursue a profession in the medical field. His studies at OSU have culminated in a thesis combining his interests in Latin America and public health, entitled “Exploring Knowledge, Attitudes, and Sexual Behavior among Young Adults in Rural Zacatecas, Mexico”.
A single father since age 19, Garrett has worked as a tutor in the Department of Chemistry, a research assistant in a Chemistry Lab and for an MPH student, and a firefighter for the Oregon Department of Forestry. Garrett is highly passionate about contemporary global issues, including international medicine, public health and technological advancements. He is applying for a Fulbright grant to Latin America and plans to attend medical school in the future, eventually specializing in internal medicine. When not studying, researching or tutoring, you'll probably find Garrett spending time with 5 year old Daisy Grace in the park or on the beach.
